At the time of “the tiny, mad idea” of separation, Jesus tells us that the split mind made an enormous error, which seemed to banish us from Heaven. “That was the first projection of error outward. The world arose to hide it, and became the screen on which it was projected and drawn between you and the truth.” A Course in Miracles, T373.
And Gary Renard, in Your Immortal Reality, elaborates on the projection in a way that makes it really easy to understand. Speaking about the world that was projected out of the mind, he says on page 52: “So it may look like all these things and people are out there, but they’re not. They’re not real people; it just looks that way…” And he continues, “…what holds the whole thing in place is my judgment and condemnation of others.”
The solution to the problem of the separation, or our belief in it, is not to judge others, but to forgive them instead. Forgiveness also involves recognising that this world is not real, i.e. seeing the false as false. We forgive because we know everything we are experiencing is simply a projection from our minds. This, it is explained, will undo the belief in the separation from God. But it takes practice as it is not always easy to remember to forgive every person, situation or event. It is difficult to remember that everything has been projected out of our minds onto the screen of the world. That’s why mind watching is so important, as well as calling on the help of the Holy Spirit, our inner Guide, and asking him to translate our false beliefs into the truth.
